My Cultural Life explores the cultural hinterland of figures in our creative, political and social landscape in ten quick fire questions.
All nations are mongrel nations and the more mongrel the better. Who needs inbreeding? And all nations have been angry at one time or another in history. The question is what did that anger produce. The English score well despite what various luvvies pronounce on the subject.
However, I rather wish that the celebration of St George's Day (and, indeed, all other celebrations) did not include the state in the shape of the Mayor and taxpayers' money. The English in the past had tax riots. Now there is an old habit that ought to be revived. Just how angry can one get?
