Peter Whittle with...James Graham

In the second of our new series, NCF director Peter Whittle talks to James Graham, one of Britain's most successful new playwrights. James's latest play, This House, has just been nominated for Best New Play at the forthcoming Evening Standard Drama Awards.

This House, which is about to transfer to the Olivier, the main stage at London's National Theatre, is set in the Westminster of the mid-Seventies, and tells the story of the machinations and political manoeuvrings behind the Lib-Lab pact.

Recent British political history has been one of the main themes of James's plays: he explored the Eden era in Eden's Empire, the Winter of Discontent of 1979 in Sons of York, the early years of Edward Heath in Tory Boyz, and Margaret Thatcher in Little Madam.
