EVENT: THE FUTURE OF CLASSICAL MUSIC

The New Culture Forum

Invites You To

NICHE INTEREST OR NEW GOLDEN AGE?

    THE FUTURE OF CLASSICAL MUSIC

A discussion hosted by Radio 3’s Petroc Trelawny With guests Roger Wright, the new Director of the BBC Proms Stephen Hough, the internationally renowned pianist Hugh Canning, the opera critic for the Sunday Times Natalie Clein, celebrated British cellist

Tuesday, 30th October, 2007, at 6.30 for 7.00pm

The Institute of Commonwealth Studies, 28 Russell Square , London WC1

Looking at the regular bouts of press hand-ringing, you would be forgiven for thinking that classical music had reached the end of the road.

But have the regular reports of its death been greatly exaggerated? Is there really a crisis, and if so, is it a commercial or a creative one?

Will classical music still form the bedrock of our musical culture in the years to come, or will it become just another minority genre?

Do join us for what promises to be an important discussion with four of the major figures from Britain ’s music world. It will be followed by a Q & A session.

RSVP to prwhittle@btopenworld.com or events@newcultureforum.org.uk
